This article proposes a strategy for agricultural diversification for the Frank País García Credit and Services Cooperative, located in Yareniquén, Holguín, in response to the need to increase labor productivity and improve the quality of life of its members. Therefore, the objective was set to argue how urban and cooperative agriculture, when based on a comprehensive and participatory approach, can become a driver of sustainable local development. Using a qualitative approach, supported by materialist dialectics and the triangulation of methods, a participatory diagnosis was carried out that revealed productive limitations, limited agricultural diversification, and environmental problems. The designed strategy is organized around four main pillars: the sustainable use of natural resources, the implementation of agroecological practices, the valorization of traditional knowledge, and the organizational strengthening of the cooperative. Its feasibility was validated using the expert criteria technique, with specialists highlighting its relevance, viability, and sustainability. The results obtained are in line with recent research on urban agriculture and agroecology in Cuba and internationally, and allow us to affirm that the proposal constitutes a replicable model for other cooperatives in the country, promoting sustainable local development and food security.
