Regular exercise reduces the risk of disease and sedentary lifestyles and promotes healthy habits. However, at the San José de la Salle-Latacunga Educational Unit, a specific problem exists low cardiorespiratory fitness among high school students, associated with unstimulating or poorly organized physical routines. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the effect of a functional training program on cardiorespiratory fitness in high school students at the aforementioned Educational Unit. A quantitative, quasi-experimental methodology with pre-test and post-test was used, with two groups and an explanatory scope. Under this methodology, a pre-test of the Course Navette Test was administered to 70 students, divided into a control group (N=35) and an experimental group (N=35); The results showed low levels of aerobic endurance, which were related to poor physical condition, excessive sedentary practices, and the absence of structured programs in the Physical Education subject; the post-test experimentation validated the effectiveness of the functional training program on the students in the experimental group, concluding that this strategy contributed to improving cardiovascular health, mental well-being, and physical functionality within the studied context.
